Quilt Show and Rules
This morning I was at the American Quilt Society Quilt Show in downtown Grand Rapids! What lovely quilts!! And the workmanship is unbelievable! I volunteered to be a “White Glover.” This is like being a hostess. I would answer questions about where things are (difficult for me because as my sweet hubby would tell you I am directionally challenged!). Another task was to remind people to not touch the quilts! Of course I was as sweet as can be but really… follow the rules people! Speaking of following rules.
Freshly Made Sketch Challenge AGAIN!
Time for another Freshly Made Sketch Challenge card! I love the soft color combination I chose for this card. My sweet hubby prefers bright colors so he is not as thrilled with this card but I love it!
Designer: Amy O’Neill
The designer of this week’s sketch is Amy O’Neill. She has a lovely blog! In fact I loved her suggestion from today’s blog that one should use the Rule of Thirds-so popular in photography- when designing cards. To understand the Rule of Thirds easily just look at the tic-tac-toe image here. The idea of the Rule of Thirds is to place key elements at the red intersections. By doing this you please the eye the most. Check out her post here. I find her blog very helpful! I hope you do too! I will keep the Rule of Thirds in mind from now on!
Freshly Made Sketch Challenge Card Directions
My card base is a 4 1/4″ X 11″ piece of Petal Pink card stock (146985). I used a 4″ X 5 1/4″ piece of Whisper White card stock (100730) for the first layer. I initially thought I would use a multicolored stamped background on my white layer using the Timeless Textures stamp set (wood 140514/ clear 140517) but that ended up being too busy for what I imagined. I usually love to make my own background papers especially with great texture stamps like this set.
I decided to leave the first layer just plain white but I used the Detailed Trio Punch (146320) on each corner to add a little pizzazz. I used a 1 1/2″ X 4″ strip (of a retired paper I believe was called Daisy Delight). I love how delicately colored this paper is! I wish this DSP had carried over to the Annual catalog!
If you have read my previous posts you can tell that I am loving using the flowers from Eastern Medallion Thinlits (143725)! I especially love these flowers with the 3D look. For my card I cut a Petal Pink (146985), a Highland Heather (146986) and a Balmy Blue (146982) flower. I cut out the center with the tiny die, saved the cut piece to use elsewhere and placed a different color tiny piece in each flower. Then I decided to put a tiny pearl on each center for an extra accent.
The sentiment is from the coordinating Eastern Beauty stamp set (143675). I cut a Whisper White piece using the Classic Label punch (141491) and then stamped the sentiment with Highland Heather ink (147103). I decided to sponge (141337) the edges with Highland Heather ink (147103) to make the label stand out more. I attached the label with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (144108). There you go easy peasy!
