Making the Simple Complicated

Christmas card and Birthday card. Made as part of a Freshly Made Sketch card challenge. Both used embossed and Eastern Medalliion Thinlits from Stampin’ Up!

Hi Stampers

Another challenge! Yay! I got the email about the new card challenge from Freshly Made Sketches #350 and could not wait to get started. This is a simple sketch and I made it complicated…uh oh! I might have to redo this one. I have been having so much fun with Eastern Medallion Thinlits ((143725) that I could not resist using the dies for the circle portion of the sketch. Then I thought of the pretty border die from Flourish Thinlit Dies (141478) and thought I had to add that too. Then they were so pretty I did not want to cover any of them up with the sentiment strip. The sentiment is from the new stamp set from the Holiday catalog coming out September 5th- Merry Christmas to All (147702). I used Garden Green (102584) , Whisper White (100730), and Real Red (102482) card stock. The Garden Green (102584) layer was embossed with the new embossing folder Swirls & Curls Texture Impressions Embossing Folder (147923) from the new Holiday Stampin’ Up! catalog.

So I did not follow the sketch too closely. I will have to try again 🙁 To go for simple and clean this time. Maybe just a plain red border under the circle? Take the outer ring off the white border of the circle? Hmm I will have to let this one cook for a while and come back.

Ok I totally changed directions and made a birthday card! I used Whisper White (100730), Petal Pink (146985), Balmy Blue (146982), and Mint Macaron (138337) card stock. This time I followed the sketch. I embossed the Petal Pink (146985) rectangle with the Swirls & Curls Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (147923). This embossing folder is from the new Holiday catalog coming out in September. I used the border die from Flourish Thinlits (141478) on the Balmy Blue (146982) strip but instead of cutting I used it to emboss using the blue silicone mat and white Big Shot Impressions pad (146327) and my Big Shot (143263).

I cut the Mint Macaron (138337) using the die from Eastern Medallion Thinlits (143725) for the first layer. I cut the Petal Pink (146985) with a round Stitched Labels Framelit (146828). The Balmy Blue (146982) circle was cut with a Stitched Shape Framelit (145372). The white flower is cut from the Eastern Medallion Thinlits (143725). I added a small pearl in the middle of the flower. I used a strip of Petal Pink (146985) for the sentiment. The sentiment is from Happy Birthday Gorgeous (143662) and stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink (132708).

This one I will enter into the Card Challenge at Freshly Made Sketches. Check out the rest of the ideas at the Freshly Made Sketches blog. I find it interesting to see what others do with the sketch. I hope you will try one too. If you do please share here!

That’s it for today. Hope you have a great day!

Happy Stampin’
