First Frost Thinking of You /FMS #356

Today I have a Thinking of You card using the Freshly Made Sketch #356 card sketch. I used Night of Navy and Balmy blue to make this a more manly card because it is for a special guy who lost his wife to cancer 6 months ago next week. Marcia was my very best friend since High School and I miss her very much. This one is for you Bob!

Hi Friends,

How are you today? Thanks for joining me today. Almost six months have passed since my best friend from High School, Marcia, died from cancer. I feel like it was just yesterday some days. I miss her so much! We had so much fun and so many laughs. she was the one who got me started getting my nails done. She was my confidante and my cheerleader. She held me when I cried. She pushed me when I needed a push!

My favorite way of coping is denial. I think that is why I have not stayed in contact with my friend’s family. I thought of this today at BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) where we are studying Joshua’s life.

We were discussing how Achan sinned and the severe consequences of his sin. achan was told to destroy everything in Jericho but achan chose to steal away and hide some of the riches. Because of his sin the battle of Ai went terribly wrong and 37 men died as a result.

One of the Discussion questions asked if there was anything you had done wrong lately and felt bad about. When I answered the question earlier I had no problem coming up with things I had screwed up. But as she asked the question I felt a pang when I thought about how I haven’t called my friend’s husband or kids or siblings …or sent a card or anything …in the last 5 months! I decided I should send out some cards right away and that leads me to my card for today. This one is for you Bob!

A reminder of the Freshly Made Sketch #356 card challenge was in my mailbox today when I got home from bible study. Later check out my card at the FMS web site. I am #4 sketch. I thought I would try to make my “Thinking of You” card  using this sketch.

Color Combination

My card for today is a combination of Night of Navy (ink 147110/ card stock 100863) , Balmy Blue ( ink 147105 /  card stock 146982) and Whisper White (100730). I wanted this to be a masculine card and thought this color combination would work for that.

Directions

I started with Balmy Blue (146982) card stock for my card base-cut 5 1/2″ X 8 1/2″ and score/folded at the 4 1/4″ mark. I cut  a piece of Night of Navy card stock (100863) 1 1/2″ X 5 1/2″.  I taped this strip in the center of the card horizontally.

Then I cut three pieces of Whisper White (100730) card stock 1 1/2″ X 3 1/2″. I embossed these pieces of Whisper White (100730) using the Corrugated Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (148726) and Big Shot (143263). I lined them up on the embossing folder so the lines were vertical on the rectangle. When using the Dynamic Texture Impressions embossing folders (148026), I only had to use one clear plastic cutting plate with my Big Shot (143263) because of the extra thickness of this type of embossing folder. I wanted a less defined shape embossed so I left the card stock dry. Usually I would lightly dampen the card stock with my stampin’ Spritzer (126185). I attached the embossed Whisper White (100730) card stock strips to the card base evenly spaced vertically as pictured. The easiest way I found to line the strips up was to first apply the outer two strips and then center the middle strip on the card evenly between the two strips.

I die-cut foliage from the Frosted Bouquet Framelits dies (147894). I cut two foliage die-cuts from Night of Navy card stock (100863) and attached them to the top of the Whisper White (100730) strips using Snail Adhesive (104332). I stamped the center foliage on to Balmy Blue (146982 card Stock with Tuxedo Black Memento ink (132708) and die cut the shape using the Frosted Bouquet Framelits dies (147894). I attached this to my card with Snail Adhesive (104332) also. Inside the card I attached White Whisper (100730) card stock cut 4″ X 5 1/4″.

I chose an appropriate sentiment from the Abstract Impressions (147513) stamp set: “If flowers were hugs I’d send you a thousand”. This I stamped on a thin strip of Whisper White (100730) card stock with Night of Navy ink (147110).  Using a Stampin’ Sponge (141337), I sponged the edges of the strip with Night of Navy ink( 147110) to help the strip to stand out more. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430) to pop out the sentiment on the card front. On the inside, I used the sentiment from Colorful Seasons (143726): “Just Breathe” using Night of Navy ink (147110) to stamp the sentiment.

I did not have any Night of Navy Baker’s Twine so I took a piece of Whisper White Solid Baker’s Twine (124262) and colored it with my Dark Night of Navy Stampin’ Blends (144039) alcohol ink marker. I tied a simple bow and applied it to the card using a Mini Glue Dot (103683) folded in half using my Paper Piecing tool (126189).

What a fun sketch! I like the way the card turned.  I would love it if I had used Night of Navy ink (147110) to stamp the middle flower. Oh well! What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.

Remember to RSVP that you are coming to the Saturday Sampler workshop this Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Come and do 6 different projects including Halloween and Christmas cards. Free with a $25 order from Stampin’ Up! or $10.

Hi Friends,

Hope your day is going great! mine has started early. I woke up at 3;30am and could not fall back asleep! so here I am, making a card at 3;30am. Do you think that is strange? For me, card making is so relaxing and having something beautiful as a result of my efforts is so satisfying that I feel better about things- like a lack of good sleep. Oh well, I will take a nap later, hopefully. My efforts this morning is a card made for the Fusion Card Challenge.

I embossed this card stock piece with my Big Shot (143263) and the Layered Leaves Dynamic Texture (143704) embossing folder. I attached the embossed piece to the card base with Snail Adhesive (104332). I cut Daffodil Delight (119683) card stock 1″ X 4″ and Mossy Meadow (133676) card stock  1″ X 4″.  I attached these strips to the upper third of the card with Snail Adhesive (104332).

I die cut two Pear Pizzazz (131201) leaf branches using dies from the Nature’s Roots Framelits Dies (146341). I die cut the center pieces of my daisy flower from the Eastern Medallion Thinlits (143725) from Blueberry Bushel (146986) and Pear Pizzazz (131201) card stocks. I punched two daisy pieces from Whisper White (100730) card stock with the Daisy Punch (143713). I layered the two pieces of daisy with Snail Adhesive (104332).

I attached the Daisy to the top of the strips with Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430). I die cut an oval with Layered ovals (141706). i stamped the Happy Birthday from Beautiful Bouquet stamp set (143666) with Blueberry Bushel (147138) ink. I used a Stampin’ Sponge (141333) to sponge the edges of the oval with Mossy Meadow ink (147111). I attached the oval with Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430). I attached a 4″ X 5 1/4″ Whisper White card stock to the inside of the card to add a note.

Well that’s it! Hope you like it.

Have a wonderful day and Happy Stampin’

Thinking of You with Fall Leaves: ‘Retro’ Cas(e) This Sketch #55

Retro Case This Sketch #55Hi Friends,

Hi Friends,

I hope you are having a wonderful day! I had a busy, tiring, lovely day yesterday! My lovely daughter, her husband and their sweet son came to visit. We had the “great grands” over for a visit and brunch so they could spend some time with Levi, my grandson. He put on quite a show with his big vocabulary for a 2 year old, he wow-ed them with his knowledge of the different colors and number order. He is just in love with trucks. We got a large toy semi-truck with spaces for smaller “matchbox” style cars for his Christmas present and this semi has lived with us since. This way he has a special toy to play with when he visits.

I had so much fun but boy was I tired out yesterday evening and I woke up during the night because my naughty back was misbehaving! All this to say I am a little behind on my card making! This afternoon I got motivated and made two very different cards. One is for my grand daughter’s 7th birthday later this month and the other is the card for today.

Color Combination

My color combination for this card  is Poppy Parade (ink 147050/ card stock 119793),  Granny Apple Green (ink 147095/ card stock 146990), Whisper White (100730), and Mango Melody (ink 147093/ card stock 146989).

Card Directions

I cut my Poppy Parade (119793) card base at 4 1/4″ X 11″ and scored/folded at 5 1/2″. I cut my Whisper White (100730) card stock layer 4″X 5 1/4″. I dry embossed my Whisper White (100730) layer with my trusty Big Shot (143263) and the Tin Tile Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (147906). I love this new embossing folder from the new Stampin’ Up! Holiday catalog.

I die cut the Granny Apple Green (146990)  fence using my trusty Big Shot (143263) and the Farmhouse Framelits Dies (147922). Yes! I got to use my new Take Your Pick Tool (144107) to poke out the sections between the fence posts. This is a great new all-in-one type tool from the Holiday catalog. See my description of this tool from yesterday’s post here.

I stamped the three leaves from the Colorful Seasons stamp set (143726) with Poppy Parade (147050), Mango Melody (147093), and Granny Apple Green (147095) inks.  I cut them out with my trusty Big Shot (143263) and the coordinating die set called Seasonal Layers Thinlits (143751) .

Assembling the Card

I used Snail Adhesive (104332) generously to attach the Whisper White (100730) embossed layer to the card base. I attached the fence after carefully applying Snail Adhesive (104332) to the fence while laying it wrong side up on release paper or on a silicone craft sheet (127853).

The bottom Poppy Parade leaf is attached with Snail Adhesive (104332). The Mango Melody leaf is attached with Mini Glue Dots (103683). The Granny Apple Green leaf is attached with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (144108).

The white Baker’s Twine (124262) was colored using my Mango Melody Stampin’ Write marker (147160) since I did not have any of that color twine. After the twine dried, I tied a bow and attached it using a mini Glue Dot (103683).

My sentiment, “Thinking of You” is from the Colorful Seasons stamp set (143726) and is stamped in Mango Melody ink (147093).  I used the Pretty Label Punch (143715) to punch out the sentiment and used Poppy Parade ink (147050) to sponge (141337) the edges of the label. The label was attached using Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430).

Well that took longer to describe than do! I hope you enjoyed my card for today. If you are looking for a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, I would be so please if you would ask me! I am available for questions about products or classes or anything stamping related!
