Dashing Deer and Snowflakes

Today I have a great Christmas card that features two dashing deer.

Hi Friends,

Today I have a fun Christmas card using the Stampin’ Up! Dashing Deer stamp set (wood mount 147731/  clear 147728) and Detailed Deer thinlits dies set (147915). These sets can be purchase in a bundle which saves you 10%! The Dashing Deer bundles are available in wood block mounted 149934  and (not mounted) clear (149935). This is a great set and I have had so much fun playing with this bundle!

Update on the WMQG “Quilt on the Grand” Quilt Show

As I said in my post on Monday, today we are going to finish up quilt judging. I have learned so much about technical aspects of quilting by hearing what the judges say about the various quilts. Tomorrow is set-up time and the show opens at the Delta-Plex here in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Friday morning at 9am! The hours will be 9-5pm both Friday and Saturday (October 5th and 6th).

Tie that Bonds Fund

The majority of the profits from the quilt show go to a special fund that our quilt guild started many years ago. This fund is called “The Tie that Binds” because the money goes to help parents bond (or keep the bond going) with their babies. This fund is used for babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at DeVos Children’s Hospital. The social workers for the NICU use the funds to give gift cards for gas purchases or for a meal at the hospital cafeteria or one of many monetary needs that parents have while having a baby in NICU.

Quilt Raffle

Also our guild has over 20 quilts that we are raffling off to support our charity. Come to the show, purchase some raffle tickets, and win a chance at a home-made quilt! Tickets for the raffle are just $1 or 6 for $5. I hope you will come out to see the quilts and support the “Tie that Binds” charity.

Back to our Card for Today: Color Combination

My color combination for today is Balmy Blue (ink 147105/ card stock 146982), Highland Heather (ink 147103/ card stock 146986), and Whisper White (100730).

Card Recipe

I started out by cutting my Balmy Blue (146982) card base 4 1/4″ X 11″.  My next layer was a 4″ X 5 1/4″ piece of Highland Heather card stock (146986). Next I embossed a 3 3/4″ X 5″ piece of Whisper White Card stock (100730) using my Blizzard Thinlits Die (147902), my Big Shot (143263), and Big shot embossing Mats (146327). If you need a refresher on using your Big Shot embossing mats check out my post on this process here Called: “Returning to a Favorite: A Butterfly Visits Some Soft Colored Flowers”.

Adding Texture to my Background

I added some texture to my embossed card stock by using my Stampin’ Sponge (141337) and Balmy Blue ink (147105). I very lightly dabbed my sponge in some ink and lightly, with a circular motion, added some Balmy Blue to accent the snowflakes to add some texture. I think it makes the background look like when it is snowing.

My Dashing Deer

My larger deer is from the Dashing Deer Stamp set (wood mount 147731/ clear 147728) . this deer was stamped with Highland Heather ink (147103) on to a  scrap of Whisper White (100730). Then I cut out the large deer using the Detailed Deer Thinlits dies (147915). I love the pattern stamped on the larger deer…don’t you? It’s so pretty!

I, then, stamped the small deer from the Dashing Deer stamp set (wood mount 147731/  clear 147728) on to Balmy Blue card stock (146982using Balmy Blue ink (147105). Next, I used the smaller deer die to cut out the deer. I attached both deer to my card with Snail Adhesive (104332).

The Sentiment

I go back and forth on whether I should punch out my label before or after stamping. For this card I chose to punch out a Pretty Label Punch (143715) from Whisper White card stock (100730) before stamping.

I stamped the sentiment from the Dashing Deer stamp set (wood mount 147731/  clear 147728) : “Remembering you this season with warm Thoughts and a Wish for Everything Merry”. This sentiment fits, but it is a tight fit! I decided to sponge the edges of my label with Highland Heather ink (147103). Finally, I attached a 4″ X 5 1/4″ piece of Whisper White card stock to the inside of the card.

Hi Friends

How are you this beautiful day? I am doing pretty great! I am excited that the new Holiday Catalog is available for everyone now! I have so many wonderful cards to share with you from the new catalog.

I have a great Christmas card for you today. My color combination for the day is Very Vanilla (card stock 101650), Balmy BLue (Ink147105), COASTAL CABANA (ink 147097), BLUEBERRY BUSHEL (INK147138), AND EARLY EXPRESSO (CARD STOCK 119686).

This card was made for the Freshly Made Sketch Challenge #353. Sharing the Joy of the Christmas Season with this handcrafted card is made with the new Stampin’ Up! Dashing Deer Die (147915) and the beautiful new Tin TIle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (147906). Both of these new products are in the New Holiday Catalog.

If you would like a new catalog contact me at SunnyLuCards@Gmail.com with your mailing address and I will send one out!

I started my card by cutting a 5 1/2″ X 11″ rectangle of Very Vanilla card stock (101650). I scored and Folded the card stock at 5 1/2″.  I cut a 5 1/2″ square of Very Vanilla (101650) card stock. I ran this piece of card stock through my Big Shot (143263) Using the new Tin TIle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (147906). This is a gorgeous Embossing fold that I recommend highly. With this type of embossing folder you use only one standard cutting mat because this folder is so much thicker than the regular folders. i misted the paper before placing the paper in the folder. This makes the pattern of the indentations more pronounced. try it with dry paper and misted paper and see for yourself. The difference is very noticeable!

Using Balmy Blue ink (147105) I lightly sponged the surface of the embossed square. I did the upper left and lower right corners with Balmy Blue (147105). Then I used Coastal Cabana ink (147097) to sponge the middle portion of the square. Then I Sponged the edges of the square with Blueberry Bushel ink (147138). This made the embossing pop!

The sponges I recommend are the Stampin’ Up! Stamping Sponges (141337). I cut these sponges in 4 pieces. The package comes with 3 Sponges so you will have 12 different sponges to work with which makes it very economical. I use one sponge for each color I am working with then I wash the sponges to reuse them again. I know some people keep a sponge to reuse with the matching ink.  I have not found a great way to store the sponge and ink together yet so  if you have an idea for me that would be awesome. this may change in the future if I find something that works for me.

I attached the embossed square to my card base with Snail Adhesive (104332) being very generous with the double sided tape. I die cut a circle of Sparkle Shimmer Paper (146957) using a medium sized Layering Circles Framelits (141705) and attached the circle to the square with Snail Adhesive (104332).

My deer was die cut using the Dashing Deer Die Framelits (147915) and my trusty Big Shot (143263). I used my new “Take Your Pick” Tool (144107) to remove the deer from the die. This new tool is a ‘gotta Have it’ tool. the tool is 6 1/2″ long. There are 5 different tips. A Tacky Putty side is great for picking up sequins.  The tacky putty side twists to dispense more tacky putty. There are tacky putty refills (150006) available too!  The other side has two changeable double ended tips. The tips include a paper piercer, a mini spatula, a small stylus and a large stylus. The tool includes special protective caps for each tool too.

I applied Clear Wink Of Stella (141897) to the deer to add some sheen. I attached the deer with stampin’ Dimensionals (104430) and Mini stampin’ Dimensionals (144108). I stamped my sentiment “Sharing the Joy” from the stamp set “Ready for Christmas” (144823) on to a 3/4″ X 5″ strip. I attached the strip with Snail Adhesive (104332). This stamp set has a Staircase and Christmas tree you can stamp and die cut with the coordinating Christmas Staircase Thinlits set (144679). There is an awesome swag and bows for the staircase and a cute little Dachshund dog wearing a sweater. A very fun set to get for Christmas cards but the staircase, tree, Dog and other details can be changed up for other times of year too. I bet it would look nice with small colored leaves for an Autumn card too.

Hope you like the card and that you are excited about the new products like I am!

Have a great day and Happy Stampin’
