Thankful for Fall Leaves

Hi Friends,

Fall and Biking

Can you believe we are at the end of August! Summer has zoomed by this year. Although I love the Fall colors here in Michigan and the crisp air when we are biking, the part about Fall that I do not care for is that it signals that winter is coming. I do not like to be cold. My sweet hubby and I try to bike as long as we can (until the snow flies). The problem is when biking you make your own wind and that increases the windchill. Oh well! Just have to make the best of it, right? I bundle up very well to stay warm. To celebrate the oncoming Fall I thought I would make an appropriate card. I used a few different techniques for this card. I hope you like it.

Card to Celebrate Fall: Color Combination

For my color combination today I picked the colors Blackberry Bliss (ink 147092/ card stock 133675), Tranquil Tide (ink 147146/ card stock 144246), Lemon Lime Twist (ink 147146/ card stock 144245), Whisper White (card stock 100730), and Soft Suede (ink 147115/ card stock 115318).

Cutting Directions

My card base is 4 1/4″ X 11″ Tranquil Tide card stock (144246) scored at 5 1/2″ and folded in half. I cut two 4″ X 5 1/4″ pieces of Whisper White card stock (100730) using my Stampin’ Trimmer (126889). One piece is for the front and one for the inside of the card. Using my Big Shot (143263), I cut Lemon Lime Twist (144245), Tranquil Tide (144246), and Blackberry Bliss (133675) card stock leaves using the Nature’s Roots Framelits (146341). I cut a 1/2″ X 4″ strip of Blackberry Bliss (133675) card stock using my Stampin’ Trimmer (126889). Then I used my Classic Label Punch (141491) to cut out my label for my sentiment.

Stamping my Background

All the back ground stamps are from the Rooted in Nature Stamp set (wood 146479/ clear 146482). I got mine in the bundle Rooted in Nature Bundle (wood 148352/ clear 148353) that includes both stamps and dies and I saved 10%!

I always start with my largest stamp and work down to the smallest stamp. I stamp in odd numbers 3,5 or 7 times. Odd numbers of items tend to please the eye more. First, I used Soft Suede ink (147115) to stamp the stump shape three times. Secondly, I used Lemon Lime Twist ink (144245) and the large leaf stamp three times. Next I used Tranquil Tide (144246) ink and stamped the three leaf cluster. Finally, I stamped the maple-shaped leaf with Blackberry Bliss ink (147092).

My sentiment is stamped with Blackberry Bliss ink (147092). I used part of this sentiment from Painted Harvest stamp set (144783). I inked only the part of the sentiment I wanted by masking the part of the stamp I did not want to use. I used blue painter’s tape while I inked up the stamp, removed the tape afterward so only “gather together” went on the label. On the inside sheet I stamped the “& give thanks” portion of the sentiment using the same method of masking. For fun I stamped some maple leaf shaped leaves with Blackberry Bliss ink (147092).

Assembling the Card

I attached the stamped background layer with Snail Adhesive (104332). Then I attached the Blackberry Bliss (133675) strip horizontally about 1 1/2″ from the bottom. The label was attached with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (144108). I attached two of the leaves with Snail Adhesive (104332) and the final leaf with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (144108). I attached the inside sheet with Snail adhesive (104332).

My Bow

I did not have the right color Baker’s Twine for this card so I made my own using White Baker’s Twine (124262) and my Tranquil Tide re-inker (144091). I used latex gloves to protect my hands from staining and got a paper plate ready. I cut a couple 18 ” lengths of Whisper White Baker’s Twine (124262). I dropped a few drops of Tranquil Tide re-inker (144091) on to my plate and smooshed the twine into the color until the white was mostly covered. The twine dries pretty fast so I was able to make my bow fairly quickly after inking the twine. I attached the bow with Mini Glue Dots (103683) on to where the leave’s stems meet at the far left of the card.
